NMLA
2006
Conference -- Farmington, NM
The NMARL presentation:
Are you the Librarian? Or Where do I fit in the library world?
Thursday, April 20 1:15 - 2:30 (at San Juan Community College)
A panel presentation with:
Rita Critchfield, University Libraries, University of New Mexico
Dave Herzel, University Libraries, University of New Mexico
Kirsten Clark, University Library, New Mexico State University
Bernadine Goldman, Los Alamos County Public Library
Cynthia Shetter, Los Lunas Public Library
Description: Paraprofessionals are in an awkward position in the library world. Library patrons
may see anyone who works in a library as a "librarian" but, for those of us who work in a library
as support staff, we wrestle with the answer to the above question. Where do we fit? How do we
deal with the perception that we're "less than" someone with a library degree? What strategies
have we used to be recognized as a vital part of your library? (Co-sponsored by NMLA Paraprofessional SIG)
2005

second part of the program will be a brainstorming session on ways to create and promote support staff workshops, conferences
and other opportunities for staff development in New Mexico. (Co-sponsored by NMLA Paraprofessional SIG)

should reject - and conditions that libraries should request.

2002
Conference -- Las Cruces, NM
The NMARL presentation:
Constituency Building: Look in your own Backyard
Lynn Trojahn, Bosque School, Albuquerque
Thursday, April 18, 8:30 - 9:45
Many times library development officers and librarians are led to believe
that they have no constituencies on which to draw funding support. We are
told that we do not have alumni, we are not as exciting as athletics, and
we are infringing on other schools' and colleges' territories. As a public
library, who are our natural allies in the community? It looks bleak and
almost impossible to fundraise in our own backyard. It isn't true!
Universities and public libraries have multiple constituencies for libraries
to draw upon and this presentation will show you where they are and how
to reach them.
